Adapted from a short story by Joyce Carol Oates, Small Avalanches takes place during the summer of 1971 and follows a singular event in the life of a thirteen year-old girl named Nancy. Spending her afternoons at her Uncle’s gas station in the hopes of seeing people and being seen, Nancy encounters an older well-to-do man from the city who is stopping for gas. As she is walking home at the end of the day, the man returns and follows her. Nancy soon finds herself in a situation that profoundly affects her childhood innocence forever. |

Director/Writer of Screenplay: Gillian Munro studied French, Social & Cultural Anthropology, and Film at UC Berkeley. She spent a year in Paris, France studying theatre, French, and photography, which she has readily applied to her sensibilities as a filmmaker. Having studied acting for over four years prior to her graduate film studies, Gillian approaches directing with a strong emphasis on character development and the world of the characters. She was awarded a post-production grant of $5,000 from the Caucus Foundation for the film Small Avalanches. |
Producer: Amanda Ellis earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech Communication from the University of Georgia, Athens, GA. She chose to continue her education at Chapman University’s Film and Television Producing after acquiring films for the University of Georgia’s student theatre, which sparked her interest in the distribution of a variety of big budget and independent films. She is dedicated to bringing creative and thought-provoking material to fruition. |

Cinematographer: Bianca Halpern draws her artistic inspirations from the people and places that she has been exposed to throughout her life. She was born and raised in Sao Paulo, Brazil. With a Bachelor in Advertisement and Marketing, Bianca joined the New York Film Academy program held at Universal Studios, where she discovered her absolute passion for cinematography. She now studies under the guidance of her professor Bill Dill, ASC. Bianca was a finalist for the 2006 Kodak Eastman Scholarship. Editor: Marissa Mueller earned her undergraduate degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing and a minor in MIS at the University of Mary in Bismark, North Dakota. She enjoys the responsibility of putting together the story and shaping the characters throughout the editing process. Marissa was a finalist for the 2007 A.C.E internship. |
Production Designer: Angi Resendez comes to us from the beautiful state of Indiana. She is in her first year of graduate film production at Chapman University with an emphasis in Production design. She has a liking for the dark arts and enjoys drawing and painting. She is currently studying under the mentorship of Larry Paull. |
